But, with a lot of new folks coming in, I thought perhaps a little discussion on the subject of "RP Etiquette" might be useful, and possibly entertaining.
Also, although this might sound a bit like a rant, it's not. So far no one in this group has stepped on toes that I know of.

I think [good roleplay] comes down to this:-------
Keep the character seperate from the player, and have fun.
The trouble with roleplaying as a player instead of a character is this: If you're injecting too much of yourself into your RP, at what point is it no longer roleplay, and instead some projection of you and your hangups onto everyone who happens to be nearby?
I've had some great RP storylines going. Some are still going, others turned into trainwrecks. Things happen. But I've occasionally had to say, "Wait... am I pushing someone else's character in a direction they don't want to go? What consequences will THEY have for this story?" I have to remind myself, I'm just acting. I may not even be writing the script - at most I'm improvising.
most times, this works out really well. But, on occasion an RP will go a little south. And that's when you turn around and say "God I hate that ending! Let's do the GOOD ending!"
As for the OOC drama we've seen sometimes, not all of us know each other beyond a global ID and maybe a general idea of what time zone. Not all of us know each other's personalities, or the 'hot buttons' that make us go ballistic. We don't know each other's favorite foods, or favorite colors, or favorite positions in the bedroom. And we don't have to know. We just need to remember, there is a real person, with real feelings, on the other side of that character... and they probably have just as much time and thought and passion invested, as we all have in ours.
So please, remember that, next time someone goes (( !!!! )) and starts acting offended. Because, somewhere, in front of a computer similar to yours, is a person who just had a button pushed that they may not have liked to have pushed. No one means to step on each other's toes... but it sometimes happens, and best thing to do is do a quick reality check to make sure all is good.
And then continue on.
Thoughts?

(( My favorite food is teriyaki salmon, my favorite color is vapor (a light metallic blue), and my favorite position in the bedroom (thus far) is reverse missionary/cowgirl... basic, I know, but I like the classics.
Now that that is out of the way, I totally agree with everything said, and though I haven't really seen any problems myself, it's nice to have it said, just to keep it in mind for those 'just in case' situations. ))
